Above The Stag Theatre presents [title of show]

Have to say I love everything Above the Stag presents. Having enjoyed the theatre in all its three iterations – literally ‘above’ The Stag in Victoria with sticky pub carpets and flashing one arm bandits (no, not the punters); in Vauxhall, slightly off the beaten drag track and now centre stage on Albert Embankment.

It’s a superb venue – all sleek, Scandic and industrial with a great bar (and staff!). It’s very social and would make a great place to pop in for a drink even if you are not seeing a show.

But you’d be crazy to miss Grindr the Opera!

It’s the theatre chosen for IAN MCKELLEN ON STAGE – who says ‘as part of the London Tour of my new solo show, I wanted to make my debut at the UK’s only full-time LGBT+ theatre. I will include my memories of the first production of Martin Sherman’s sensational Bent, words from Armistead Maupin and a few surprising gay characters in Shakespeare! All profits will help provide sound-proofing of Above The Stag Theatre’s main house in lovely Lambeth.’

It’s, of course SOLD OUT, but…

Next up is [title of show] 13 Feb — 10 Mar 2019

Jeff and Hunter have a dream – and that dream is for their work to be selected for the upcoming New York Musical Theatre Festival. However, the submissions deadline is only three weeks away, and our heroes don’t actually have a musical to perform. So, they recruit some friends and pull off the impossible when their show is selected for the festival. But that’s when the egos start to clash, and everything begins to unravel…

[title of show] A musical comedy about writing a musical comedy

[title of show] was actually genuinely chosen for production by the Musical Theatre Festival and premiered there, in September 2004, in New York City. It later ran off-Broadway at the Vineyard Theatre in 2006, earning a second limited run the same year, then played at Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre and was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical.
