O-food Fish and Vegetarian Sandwich and Salads Pop-up

O-food, a pop up sandwich bar in Shoreditch is showing London the future of fast food by focusing on responsibly sourced vegetarian and fish dishes – they are supporters of The Big Fish Fight initiative launched by UK chef, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and all their fish are non-Big 5.

O-food uses fish sourced from low impact fisheries in Kent along with fresh, locally sourced vegetables from British farms, sour dough loaves from St John and fresh salads such as grated beetroot with hazelnuts, celery, apple, mint and parsley and a secret dressing (£2.80). For breakfast, customers can enjoy ‘The O’Kai’ (£4.00), an omelette served with Portobello mushrooms, baked tomatoes, mature cheddar cheese and Nordic pesto.

O-food The Hastings

‘The Hastings’ – Fish patty, romaine lettuce, tomato, gherkin, sauce remoulade àu curry for £5 It comes served on various breads that include white or dark sourdough and Russian rye. Customers can also jazz it up with free extras that include more gherkins, citrus marinated onions and pickled green chillies.

The founders take the high quality fresh ingredients to create a menu influenced by their Nordic roots.  Jens Hannibal, Daniel Flösser and Roel Philippart set up O-Food because of a shared passion for sustainable food and business after meeting while studying and working in London.

Danish-born Jens Hannibal one of the co-founders of O-food explains, “We’re not people who think that meat-based fast food is inherently bad. We just think that someone needs to take the lead to show people delicious, low impact, alternatives to meat and mainstream choices of fish.

“Through our pop-up we were hoping to prove that the world is ready for the idea of tasty sustainable fast food that doesn’t include meat. Over the last four weeks, we’ve been overwhelmed by the response from local customers. So much so, that we’ve decided to put our own money into extending the pop-up for a few more weeks to get more people behind the concept”.
