Sipsmith’s Hot Gin Roof at Ham Yard Hotel

Sipsmith and Ham Yard Hotel have teamed up to bring back the hot gin experience for ‘ginthusiasts’.

Firmdale Hotel’s Group Mixologist, Eoin Kenny and Sipsmith Master Distiller, Jared Brown have delved back into the history books and discovered that not only was gin first sipped hot before there was access to central heating, but also that historically these drinks were heated using a red-hot ‘poker’ taken straight from the fire.
he rooftop terrace, another of the hotel's private events spaces, has sweeping views of the Soho skyline.

Cocktails will be ‘poked’ piping hot in front of guests using blacksmith pokers – caramelising the sugars and producing a ‘ginny’ aroma. From classics like the steaming Hot G&T and Singapore Sling garnished with a barbecued pineapple slice, to a ‘poked’ porter based cocktail recipe from 1929, called the Hangman’s Blood; this line-up of  hot gin drinks will banish any post-Christmas blues.
Hot Gin Roof pop-up will run from Wednesday 17th January until Saturday 17th February in 90 minute sessions. Tickets costing £18 per person, include a complimentary welcome Hot G&T, followed by a cocktail of choice, and an introduction by the Ham Yard and Sipsmith team.
