Summer Soirees at Le Meridien Piccadilly

The sun came out for the launch of Le Meridien Nice’s ‘Summer Soirees’

residency in Piccadilly London.

Not much in common – the Med and metropolis,  you’d expect. But with a few beach huts, stripey deckchairs and a petanque pitch we were tastefully transported to the French Riviera.

Okay, so we must have had a few wines – it’s a roof terrace only two floors up in an atrium with views down an avenue of relentless London traffic – but for a couple of hours, sat seaside, swaying to the bossa nova band Nouvelle Vague bathed in sunshine lights we could dream of balmy air under a star-filled sky.

Even if you’re not quite dressed for the beach then one of the cocktails comes with espadrilles at £29 from Nice-based 1789 Cala.

It’s not just about the ambience and footwear, the food is terrific too.

Ably handled by Piccadilly’s Executive Chef, the charming Daniel Ayton in collaboration with Eric Brujan of Le Meridien Nice. Eric’s daube is one of the richest, tastiest beef stew a la Nicoise we’ve tasted. Dishes such as Salade Nicoise with pan-seared tuna, Pissaladiere savoury tart of caramelised onions are priced at £8 each or £14 for two. A bottle of Cotes du Rhone will set you back £32.

Post Brexit it might be the closest we’ll get to the Riviera this year.

Fun for a date or group of friends.
