The Old Bengal Bar

On the ground floor of the historic Old Bengal Warehouse, Liverpool Street, The Old Bengal Bar‘s innovative design details pay homage to the building’s heritage with timber flooring, exposed brickwork, hanging pendants, etched mirror panelling and columns from old ship masts. Built in 1771 by the East India Company to store spices, tea, and other luxury goods brought in by intrepid British mariners, the warehouse facilitated the spread of British influence and the influx of wealth for over two centuries. After falling prey to the container-shipping revolution of the 70s the warehouse was given a new lease of life as the core building in the Devonshire Square Estate and the stylish interiors have been designed by the team at Conran & Partners.

The impressive white marble bar features an ice block, complementing the high quality of the cocktails. Distressed-metal tables and lounge seating add to the bar’s atmospheric setting.

Bar Manager Milos Popovic, previously at Le Pont de la Tour and Claridge’s, has created a cutting edge cocktail menu that guests can enjoy either inside or on the quiet, secluded terrace outside. The menu is designed with a selection of historic cocktails inspired by the East India Company’s heritage. Drinks include a selection of vintage rums and cognacs including Barcardi Gold 1930 and Richard Hennessy. The Old Bengal Bar champions some of the world’s most classic cocktails such as the Sazerac, the New York Sour, the Italian favourite Negroni and the Clover Club, which was invented at the old Bellevue Stratford in Philadelphia, as well as other favourites with an Old Bengal twist, such as The Martinez and Prince of Wales, which feature alongside hand-crafted signature cocktails including Mojito Royal and Dirty Truffle.

As well as showcasing an innovative cocktail menu, The Old Bengal Bar also offers a selection of Champagnes. Leading the list will be a collection of Krug with the prestigious Clos d’Ambonnay 1998 and the Krug Grande Cuvée available by the glass.

For those who prefer to stick to spirits, The Old Bengal Bar will boast an impressive selection of rare spirits by the bottle, including Daroze Armagnac, Lemorton Rareté Calvados and Rémy Martin Louis XIII cognac.

The Old Bengal Bar food menu devised by Allan Picket, features small taster dishes such as Scotch eggs, cheese straws and sausage rolls, and more substantial options such as the Tiffin “Lunch”, The Bengal Hamburger made from 100% aged Black Angus steak, dopiaza onions, raita and tamarind chutney, as well as steaks from the Josper Grill.
