The UK’s most anarchic and exciting art fair takes the show on the road, and visits Liverpool for the first time as part of the opening weekend of the Liverpool Biennial on 5th July.
Artists at the Liverpool Fair will include Sir Peter Blake, whose limited edition print of just 150, depicts a 1962 Beatles concert flyer for a show at the Blue Penguin Club with The Merseybeats and The Sinners. The club, also known as St. John’s Hall, was based in the Merseyside town of Bootle, near Liverpool. This was the Beatles fifth and final performance at the venue. The band gained popularity in the UK after their first hit, “Love Me Do”, in late 1962.
Other renowned artists are Gavin Turk, James Unsworth, Julia Vogl, Marty Thornton, Wilma ‘Surfmama’ Johnson, Swifty, Cultivate, Scrawl Collective, Carolyn Gowdy, Alice Herrick, Jeffrey Disaster, Maria Teresa Gavazzi, Nina Fowler, the Juncture. The Fair will also be championing Liverpool based artists including Emily Speed, Rose Smith, Sam Venables, Kevin Hunt, The Royal Standard featuring Rob Chavasse, Sam Smith and Joey Holder, Dave Evans, Francis Disley, Rachel Marcroft, Lil Atkinson, Double Negative, Theodore Vass, Madeleine Hall and more.
The Vauxhall Art Cargo – a specially customised Vauxhall Vivaro van packed full of art and the stuff to make it at each venue – will offer visitors the chance to get stuck in to the process as well as the purchase of art.
The event will also feature the Go-Forth Plinths, a series of car and roof top commissions from Gavin Turk and the Vauxhall Ampera, Julia Vogl on the Vauxhall ADAM and Nina Saunders on the Vauxhall Insignia. There will also be a selection of classic Vauxhall motors with boots full of art including the Firenza, Ventora, Viva and PA Velox.
