Trapped in Zone One, a Tower Hamlets based arts collective have launched a new project called ‘Culture meets Creativity in Tower Hamlets’ in which they plan to create a new community mural in Shadwell Gardens celebrating culture in the borough.

Trapped in Zone One are hosting a free creative workshop facilitated by Nodee Niranjana and Tomzida Sultana on 13 March 2022 from 16:00-18:00 at Tarling East Community Centre, 63 Martha Street, E1 2PA.
People can register through Eventbrite and help create a cultural theme mural design which will then be painted at Shadwell Gardens (E1 2QJ) by Alex Altona and Woskerski.
Trapped in Zone One received funding through Spacehive, a crowdfunding platform for ideas that bring local spaces to life – the world’s first civic crowdfunding platform. Spacehive brings together people, organisations, governments and foundations to collaboratively fund projects that communities want: everything from spruced up playgrounds and new street markets, to pocket green spaces and community centres. Spacehive has the highest success rate of any other crowdfunding platform and works in partnership with funders from across the UK, from the Mayors of London and Sunderland, to BT and the Arts Council; organisations that want to support community projects that make local places better.
Trapped in Zone One’s aim is to engage with community groups to improve the health and well-being of diverse communities through the arts.

Bow Colours
Trapped in Zone One recently unveiled a new mural in Bow, entitled ‘Bow Colours’ celebrating the diverse communities who call Bow home. Bow Bells, Bow Church, and now Bow Colours. The bright and eye-catching new mural is on Malmesbury Road on the Malmesbury Estate. Trapped in Zone One’s founder, and leader of the Bow Colours project, Bablu Miah, said that the mural’s slogan was conceived during a workshop with eight young people aged 10 to 19, a week after Black History Month. The mural’s words were chosen by the young people to reflect the different communities and diversity of people who live in and call Bow their home.
