New Bar Opening in Fitzrovia REVEREND JW SIMPSON – Oh Lordy!

Reverend J W SimpsonCreated by the people behind Bourne & Hollingsworth of this Parish, Reverend J.W. Simpson Is the new cocktail bar opening on Goodge Street in late October 2012. An intimate space with an original design, Rev. JW’s has a strong focus on high quality cocktails, combining the level of service of a hotel bar with the atmosphere of a private drinks party.

The key element of Rev. JW’s is its cocktail list. Focusing on Fizzes, Flips, Cobblers, Smashes and Sours, the cocktails range from £7.50 to £9. Using timeless techniques and classic recipes, the drinks are often mixed and served at the table.

The design of the bar is certainly unique. Having begun demolition, designers discovered an apartment practically untouched and decided to keep as much of the original layout as possible.

All gather at the Reverend JW Simpson

Rev. JW’s still retains the original room dividers, wall coverings, flooring and tiles, subtly exposing the former building’s kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom. From the patches of pale wallpaper behind picture frames to the chipped paint where the headboard used rub against the wall, all around are signs and mementos of the former occupant -‐ the one and only Reverend JW Simpson.

In complete contrast to the walls and flooring, the furniture, fittings and glassware are all classic, high-end and luxurious. Newly upholstered banquette seating and soft lounge chairs sit alongside polished low tables, and the drinks are all served in cut glass.

Cocktails from the menu include:
Port in a Storm £8
Dark Rum and Port with Bitters and Fresh Lime, finished long with Ginger Beer
Laird’s Old Fashioned £9 ½
Apple Brandy stirred with Liquorice Bitters & Apple Syrup, with a Citrus Zest
Blackberry Smash £8 ½
Monkey Shoulder Whiskey and Blackberries, mixed with Lemon Wedges, Crushed Ice, Mint and Crème de Mure
Mead Feast £8
Mead mixed with Basil, Honey & Quince Liqueur, with Lemon Juice & Bitters.

Throughout the evening, complimentary snacks are handed round, ensuring customers feel like guests, while the piano in the corner available to all, means that the bar is treated like a home. Anyone for a blast of Oh When the Saints?
