Whether it’s your wake-up cup of caffeine or a sweet chocolate treat, a beautiful bouquet of flowers or a ream of printing paper, your choice matters. Supporting a healthier future for people and the planet can be as simple as looking for the Rainforest Alliance’s little green frog on everyday items, such as coffee, tea, chocolate, flowers, paper and wood products.
To encourage consumers to follow the frog and choose a healthy planet, the Rainforest Alliance will launch its third annual Follow the Frog Week from 16-22 September 2013. This week-long campaign encourages individuals and businesses to celebrate sustainability by taking even one small step toward a greener lifestyle.
Here are three simple ways you can get involved in Follow the Frog Week:
1. Watch and Share
What you can do: Learn why your choices matter — watch our “Hidden Consequences” video then share it with your family and friends! http://ow.ly/oMeEv Be sure to use the hashtag #FollowtheFrog. Follow @RnfrstAlliance on Twitter and like the Rainforest Alliance on Facebook to keep in touch and get the latest environmental news and tips for a greener life.
Why you should care: Just because you don’t see the consequences of your actions, doesn’t mean there aren’t any. In fact, we’re losing forests at a rate of 32 million acres per year – that’s equivalent to one football field every 78 seconds. Helping to protect forests and support communities worldwide can be as simple as looking for the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal and the Rainforest Alliance Verified mark.
2. Join in the Fun
What you can do: Join in the fun and festivities of Follow the Frog Week. Nationwide, and worldwide, the Rainforest Alliance, and companies working with us, will be hosting events, competitions and promotions in celebration of Follow the Frog Week. Check out what’s on at http://bit.ly/1ecxIf9 and get involved!
Why you should care: Small actions lead to big changes. If everyone takes just one small step to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle, we can collectively make a huge global impact, protecting our planet’s precious resources for our children and generations to come.
3. Make a Pledge
What you can do: Make a pledge to be a savvy consumer. When shopping for everyday items – such as coffee tea, chocolate, flowers, paper and wood products – look for the Rainforest Alliance Certified green frog seal.
Why you should care: Agricultural expansion is responsible for 70 percent of global deforestation, and is the single greatest threat to tropical forests. The Rainforest Alliance’s little green frog is your assurance that goods and services were produced according to strict environmental, social and economic standards that curb deforestation, protect wildlife and improve conditions for workers, families and communities.
