To celebrate National Margarita Day on 22 February, for the first time ever, Cointreau is inviting cocktail lovers to experience a rare, once-in-a-lifetime getaway inside the home of the Margarita, in partnership with Secret Escapes.
For more information and entry details, visit: Secret Escapes with the winner announced on 11th March 2026.
The Original Margarita was created in 1948 by Margaret Sames using Cointreau liqueur, Tequila and fresh lime juice – with Cointreau the only ingredient specifically named in the recipe. Today, the Margarita stands as one of the world’s most iconic cocktails, ranked in the Top 3 of the bestselling classics at the world’s best bars. Cointreau remains at the heart of over 500 cocktails, including timeless classics like the Cosmopolitan. Its signature liqueur – Cointreau L’Unique – is crafted through the distillation of sweet and bitter orange peels.
One lucky winner and three guests will enjoy a money-can’t-buy, three-day hosted experience beginning in Paris with an immersion into contemporary French cocktail culture, before travelling to an exclusive stay at La Richardière – the former Cointreau family home, situated on the Loir River – yes, without the ‘e’, this river runs north and roughly parallel to the bigger Loire. The pink-granite, 12-bedroom ‘Château de Cointreau’ is surrounded by 150 hectares of forest and offers a refined countryside escape, defined by historic architecture and riverside surroundings.
The experience offers unparalleled access to the estate, including private distillery tours, hands-on Margarita masterclasses, and seasonal French dining with local talent – all curated to be shared together. Hosted by Alfred Cointreau, sixth generation member of the Cointreau family, the experience offers rare access to the Maison and a deeper understanding of the craft behind this enduring global icon.
Of course, at the heart of the experience is the Margarita itself – a cocktail story inseparable from Cointreau’s heritage and enduring influence on modern cocktail culture.
The experience includes:
· A two-night stay across Paris and Angers, immersed in the heart of cocktail culture
· A guided distillery tour and tasting at the site where every bottle of Cointreau has been crafted for over 175 years, offering behind-the-scenes insight into the heritage and flavour profile, led by master distiller Carole Quinton
· A hands-on Margarita masterclass, inspired by the Original Margarita, where guests will learn to mix, balance and perfect the iconic serve with Cointreau’s Ambassador Kevin Suiero
· Seasonal dining, thoughtfully curated to complement the tasting experience and showcase fresh, local flavours
· Time to explore the grounds, soak up the surroundings and enjoy the setting at a relaxed pace
