Curated by BAFTA and multi award-winning photographer Alison Jackson, A Day In Your Life is a community minded project set up to help under-represented, disadvantaged and minority young, aspiring photographers and creatives from ages 4 to 24 years. The competition is open to anyone interested in photography, using a phone or camera, from any skill level.
“Everybody deserves a chance to shine. A Day in Your Life Photography Competition cultivates, celebrates and creates opportunity for new, young talent who have not had the chance before – or never believed they could.”
For five years A Day In Your Life has operated a series of skills-led photography and creative workshops run in the summer holidays in youth clubs, schools, trusts and community centres in Kensington & Chelsea.
Now expanding to Westminster boroughs Alison and her team teaches all aspects of photography and skills relating to it, such as, directing, acting, modelling, styling, make up, lighting, fashion, business, and communications.
The aspiring photographers benefit from further education, mentorships, work placements, apprenticeships and job opportunities in the creative industries, such as with University of the Arts, Science Museum, V&A, Parliament amongst others.
This culminates in an annual exhibition and prizegiving ceremony of the incredible, winning photographs – last years exhibition was held at the world-renowned Saatchi Gallery. This year sees A Day In Your Life award ceremony held at Cadogan Hall courtesy of sponsors Cadogan Estates with an exhibition of the winning entries. Judges in attendance include: Sir Trevor Phillips, photographer Richard Young, MBE artist Chila Burman, Ben Burdett from Atlas Photography Gallery, and Nick Rhodes from Duran Duran.
In previous years, winners had their work exhibited at Saatchi Gallery, SaatchiArt, PhotoLondon, The RBKC Town Hall and The Duke of York Square.
