New exhibition features original dresses alongside unique images of Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe on display in London for the first time ever. The Getty Images Gallery is excited to announce its exhibition, Marilyn, a collection of imagery and memorabilia to commemorate 50 years since the untimely death of Marilyn Monroe.

An icon is suitably honoured.

Showcased in London for the first time, the exhibition features a number of original dresses and costumes worn by the Hollywood icon, alongside unique and iconic photographs. Dresses include those from covershoots such as Country Life, movies and personal appearances. The sequinned red dress with a nude mesh from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, the to the plain pink linen dress used for the ‘longest walk’ sequence from Niagara Falls. The walls are lined with scores of photos of Marilyn posing in her polka dot bikini, striped Breton shirt and wedges to images of a simple girl on the New York Subway.

Marilyn will include imagery from Monroe’s early years as an aspiring actress through to her rise to international stardom. Accompanying the photographs will be original film costumes and dresses from the legendary collection of David Gainsborough Roberts, owner of one of the largest collections of Marilyn Monroe memorabilia in the world. Original video will also be shown ensuring Marilyn offers an unrivalled glimpse into the life of one of the world’s most famous stars.

Marilyn Iconic Dresses

Marilyn Monroe Iconic Dresses (Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Some Like It Hot & Prince and the Showgirl)

Marilyn runs from Friday 9 March to Sunday 23 May 2012 and admission is free.

The Getty Images Gallery is situated in central London, just a starlet’s smile away from Oxford Circus.

Opening hours are Monday to Friday 10am-5.30pm and Saturday 12pm-5.30pm.

A smaller exhibition will also be on display at Getty Images Gallery in Westfield Stratford City at a slightly later date of 23 March to 3 June 2012.
