The Penn – Gold Medal for Accommodation at the Olympics

A private castle, a London Bridge pied-a-terre and a helicopter. Move over James Bond, we’ve arrived! The Pennsylvania Castle on the Isle of Portland is probably the most luxurious accommodation available for the Olympics.

For a peek at what it has to offer – views of the bay and an indoor pool, plus all the support services such as a personal chef and local cake maker on standby, visit www.thepenn.co.uk

Perfect for a traveller with a large family, a sports team or corporate customer or a sailing superstar. The Penn is located on the Isle of Portland which forms the southernmost point of the county of Dorset, England and is 4½ miles long by 1¾ miles wide. The principal rooms look out across the rugged UNESCO World Heritage listed Jurassic Coast and along the English Channel towards St Albans’s Head and the Isle of Wight.

Joined to the mainland by a causeway, the island is surrounded by the seas of the English Channel.  Glorious sunrises and sunsets with waves rolling past the Castle create an idyllic spot and on dark and stormy days, sit and relax by the open fire and watch the waves crashing along the coast. Sea sports including sailing and windsurfing can be arranged for your enjoyment, plus there is an excellent local spa, cycling trails, and of course the bright lights, harbour and beautiful bay of close-by Weymouth to enjoy.

On entering the Island you pass one of the largest man-made harbours in the world, dominated for centuries by the Royal Navy and now home to the 2012 Olympic Games Sailing Events.

The Penn is well served by rail (to Weymouth) and road.  London, Waterloo to Weymouth is 2 hours 45 minutes and Central London to The Penn by car will take approximately three hours.

Helicopter transfer from London is around 50 minutes. Enough time  to ice the Martini.
