Long John Silver is a legend in his own lifetime. Treacherous. Murderous. Infamous. PIRATICAL. The only problem is, he’s not happy with the narrative and he’ll do anything to set the record straight, even at the cost of his very last breath. This one-man play considers the nature of morality and of perception, through the character of Long John Silver from the novel Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson and the questions and judgement from the audience acting as fellow crew onboard that night. What if he isn’t the terrible pirate he’s been painted to be? What if, instead of being a villainous thief, he’s actually a challenger to unjust systems and the rejection of societal norms?
From Brother Wolf, the multi award-winning creators of ‘Fagin’s Last Hour’ and ‘A Christmas Carol – as told by Jacob Marley (deceased)’, comes SILVER & GOLD (based on ‘Treasure Island’), making its return on board the majestic Golden Hinde – a full-size reconstruction of Sir Francis Drake’s Elizabethan galleon ship, situated on the banks of the River Thames. The show then moves to the Town Hall Skipton in North Yorkshire and a national tour.
‘Silver & Gold‘ the production received a nomination from The Fringe Theatre Awards 2025/6: Solo Performance in a Play, as well as multiple 5-star reviews.
Praise for SILVER & GOLD:
“The setting adds a layer of authenticity and intimacy that a traditional theatre simply couldn’t replicate… we were no longer mere spectators — we were Silver’s new crew. Silver, played with formidable energy by James Hyland, commands the space… The pacing is taut, the storytelling vivid… for those with a love of theatre, history, and storytelling, it’s a rare treat… experiencing this tale aboard such a historic ship, right in the heart of London, was a delight — a theatrical voyage worth taking.”
~Number 9
“It’s a complete tour de force performance that left me completely captivated… Theatre doesn’t get more immersive or atmospheric than this… This is theatre as it should be. Raw, engaging, and unapologetic.”

e”Is there anywhere better to tell a swashbuckling story about the fictional pirate Long John Silver than on the lower decks of the Golden Hinde, a glorious full-scale reconstruction of the 16th-century English galleon…”
