Live Streaming From The North Pole

A 17 year old polar explorer sets out today to become first person in history to live stream from North Pole.

One Young World explorer Parker Liautaud is the youngest ever to return to the region, having successfully completed his mission last year to ski to the North Pole, which was one of the fastest Arctic expeditions in history.

Parker is endeavouring to become the first person in history to live stream his arrival at the North Pole, using the social media platform Ustream, which is a live interactive platform that enables anyone with an internet connection and camera to broadcast globally at any time.

Social media has played a pivotal role in Parker’s previous polar expeditions. In 2010, aged 15, Parker was the first person to “check in” from the North Pole with the location-based platform Foursquare.

During his Arctic mission last year, he tweeted and wrote Facebook posts from the same spot after completing his 112km trek in an extraordinary time of four days.

Parker is an ambassador for the international youth forum One Young World. He will use his latest expedition, called ‘IceTalks’, to conduct vital research into the effects of global climate change. His research will be distributed by the International Atomic Energy Agency to thousands of scientists around the world and the results will be used as a call to action on governments to work harder to reduce CO2 emissions.
