Following on from the success of last year’s ATG relaxed performance pilot scheme, Richmond Theatre have made plans for another relaxed performance in their 2013/2014 pantomime season. The Monday 6 January 7pm performance of Peter Pan, starring Hollywood legend Henry Winkler, will be specially adapted for anyone with an autistic spectrum condition, sensory and communication disorders, a learning disability or for anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed environment.
Richmond Theatre was one of three venues to pilot the scheme in the 2012/2013 pantomime season with their performance of Aladdin. The scheme is supported by the Society of London Theatre and the Theatrical Management Association who have been collaborating with ATG on the delivery of these performances alongside pantomime producers First Family Entertainment. As part of the scheme, theatre staff also received training from The National Autistic Society.
Relaxed Performances are aimed at families with children with an Autistic Spectrum Condition, sensory and communication disorders, a learning disability or for anyone who would benefit from a more relaxed environment. As with last year’s performance it is likely that there will be some small changes to the show, in terms of lighting and sound cues, but the overall content of the show will not change. There will also be a more relaxed attitude to noise in the auditorium, in order to reduce anxiety and ensure a safe, enjoyable theatre visit. Bookers will be sent a visual story (detailed information and photos), be invited to attend a familiarisation meeting in the theatre and there will be a designated ‘chill-out’ area for use during the performance.
Henry Winkler says, “I believe that theatre is for everyone and I’m so proud to be part of a pantomime that is ALL INCLUSIVE.”
Richmond Theatre’s relaxed performance of Peter Pan on Monday 6 January, is already on sale and tickets can be booked at www.atgtickets.com/richmond or 0844 871 7651 (fees apply).
