beefeater logoBeefeater, the world’s best-selling premium gin, which launched #MyLondon Film Fest, a three-month competition for independent and amateur filmmakers to celebrate the unique spirit of the Capital announced the winners at a gala screening on 13th August 2013. Guests at the Roxy Cinema and Bar in Borough London were treated to an evening of winning shorts, long drinks, satay sticks and mustard mayo chips. Sitting back comfortably in old Chesterfields the screen flickered into life with a homage of London sights in a Union Jack branded Beefeater promo, capturing the iconic spirit of the city. Each of the films were winners in the run up to the final having won £2000 each, the awards ceremony was to pick the overall winner who walked away with £5000 of video equipment.

Then the shorts; in the New Etonian by Peter Harris, a handsome urban boy (Marcus Agunloye) buttons up a cravat and waistcoat and bikes out for a wicker basket picnic, but the lad wanders off to discover a fresher ‘look’ and ingredients for a cocktail of love. Other shorts involved an Olympic dash to the bar, a hopeful search for something red , something triangular shaped, the right ingredients, an antiquarian sino anglo walk To The Lighthouse (The Bloomsbury Twist) some frisky foxes (For Fox Sake), a right Northern fan, and a high quality Ray Winston-esque gangster interrogation (Pure London) with excellent camerawork from a moody Snapshots of London and a perky The Holloway Report.

The winner was Unhappy Hour a comic romance with the cocktail bringing Jamie Sims and Charley Newton John together, but not in the conventional way. Jamie said he had the idea for a guy sat in a launderette and then had to work back from there for the story to write itself.

Aiming to bring together the passion and flair of London’s brightest filmmakers and the city’s leading bartenders, entrants were encouraged to create a short 2 to 5 minute film, expressing what London means to them and featuring the bartender and a gin-based cocktail. A team of judges, including film critic James King, assess all entries, choosing two winners each month to receive a £2,000 prize. At the end of the competition, Beefeater will select one overall winner to receive a prize of £5,000 worth of filming equipment.

Winners are showcased here www.beefeatergin.com/mylondonfilmfest and at Facebook.com/BeefeaterDry.

As the only international gin brand to still be distilled in the heart of the Capital, Beefeater is a true London spirit. Created by James Burrough in the 1860s, every drop of Beefeater sold throughout the world today is made at the Beefeater Distillery in Kennington.
