Bourne & Hollingsworth Buildings is a modern, all-day, 70-cover brasserie and bar opening in Clerkenwell in mid-September 2014.
From the people behind the fantastic Reverend JW Simpson, Blitz Party and Prohibition, and Bourne & Hollingsworth Bar, B & H Buildings is situated just off Exmouth Market will be part restaurant and greenhouse, large bar, café and characterful private rooms.
The menu, designed by Head Chef Alex Visciano, is a modern British take on traditional brasserie food. Born in Paris, 27-year-old Visciano worked at Le Meurice, The Connaught and with the two-Michelin-starred Michel Rostang’s Nicolas Beaumann.
Taking inspiration from the faded grandeur of a stately home, the venue’s design combines unusual textures and modern shades with rich fabrics. Created by Lionel Real de Azua of Red Deer Architects and Louise Davies of Box 9 Architects (Riding House Café, Pizza East, Soho House Berlin) the look is pared back, classic interiors. Throughout the 220m₂ space it’s whitewashed floorboards, cornicing, light walls, ironwork, warm wood and antique armchairs.
There are five distinct spaces: the Bottle Room, private dining for 14 people; the cocktail bar, on the sunny west-facing side of the building which opens onto the street and the leafy park beyond via huge windows and doors; the café area of winged mahogany wicker chairs and high-backed sofas; and restaurant and greenhouse with cane garden furniture and wrought iron benches. The whole space will be filled with hanging baskets, full-grown trees and trailing creepers, bringing the outside in.
