Fifty years after the last gin production left Camden Lock, Half Hitch gin founder, Mark Holdsworth, has opened the doors to his micro-distillery, complete with a 210-litre copper pot still.

Half Hitch Gin – an instant classic with its a beautiful, straw-hued spirit which is presented in a bold, robust, beveled-glass 70cl bottle.
Housed in the former blacksmith’s building in West Yard, Camden Lock, this was the heart of 20 acres of London’s gin distilling & warehousing trade in the late 1800s. An express train exported its gin daily to the world but until now only faint memories remain such as the street name Juniper Crescent’.
Half Hitch gin – made from black tea, bergamot, black pepper, wood and hay – was recently the reception cocktail at St James’s Palace and Buckingham Palace at events held for British entrepreneurs. In July 2015, it won a gold medal at Drinks Business’ Gin Masters and Double Silver at the International Wine and Spirits Competition.
The twist for their signature G & T uses a fresh peel of orange to bring out the light citrusy notes of the tea and bergamot. Before tonic came to the fore in the 1820s , freshly squeezed orange juice was poured over ice in a rocks glass & then topped with gin.
You can find Half Hitch gin at Hix Soho, Dabbous, Aqua Shard, Scarfe’s Bar, Bulgari Hotel, St James’ Hotel, Rivington Grill, Pizza East, Selfridges, Fortnum & Mason’s and now Camden.
