The Oresteia - all three and half hours of it... The Oresteia - all three and half hours of it...

Worth going to hear how the play is pronounced, see the set and the outstanding performance by Mary-Louise Parker. We had the Augie understudy, George Renshaw, who gave an assured performance.

The sensational set spins, as does the mind in marvelling at this glass-box house and seamless scenes, and back and forward time changes - lighting, sound, costumes WHAM etc. everything done well.

Enjoyed doing the plotting between the modern named characters and their Greek counterparts, and the three plays and fragment (mercifully!) of a fourth part from ancient Greek playwright Aeschylus - known as the Father of Tragedy.

It really didn't need to be this long - often the case with the same writer/director and nobody else to say "Cut/Hold" on editing. Direction is superb, as is the writing and so funny - but a few too many darlings that needed to be killed.

Talking of which, you certainly come out stunned, and one of the lucky ones not to be murdered by this family's blood thirsty vengeance...

On until 19th September 2026. Worth a look!

Talking of which, what a lot of clever ideas and treaties by Tom Stoppard, I feel I've been entertained and educated - ranging from the Red Book of the play's Culpability Brown, Fermat's Last Theorem and iterated algorithms et al (yes, I had to look them up!)

It's a rather brilliant play and fantastic weaving of time and ideas.

Feel rather smug having enjoyed this.

If this isn't a smash then there's no justice!

A spectacle of stagecraft and storytelling - @tellyleung as Ryuk is something to behold.

The book, music @frank.wildhorn singing @xander-pang @shtephie, choreo, costumes, wham, THE SET (!) @jonbausor has winner written all over it.

Beetle Juice the musical! A hash of a show - car Beetle Juice the musical!

A hash of a show - cartoonish panto and not enough heart.

Standout Hannah Nordberg (@hannahnordberg) carries the emotional heft as Lydia Deetz but at times she and Beetlejuice, David Fynn, are in competing and occasionally overlapping narratives.

A pastiche of modern musicals, the hell scene is more memorable in Book of Mormon. Brad and Janet, erm sorry Adam and Barbara, a bit more engaging in Rocky Horror Show and it takes them far too long to Ready, Set, Go. Father is a bit miscast but the step-mother Delia (@summerstrallen) is deliciously comic. The cast do well with what they are given - but it's all a bit much and manic.

The Day-O (The Banana Boat Song) and Jump in the Line are still the only memorable songs - although Dead Mom could have some life.

Spectacular scenography, vx effects, animatronics - the pig needs an award - lighting, costumes, choreo etc. but... ultimately DOA.
