Want to Be a Travel Writer? Try Gapyear.com’s Writers Academy

gapyear.comGapyear.com, the world’s largest gap year social network, has launched the Gapyear.com Writers Academy, an online tool for people to get their work published.

And the best thing is, it’s completely free.

The Gapyear.com Writers Academy (GWA) has been set up to help first-time travel writers break into the travel industry by developing their writing skills and giving travellers the opportunity to get their work published on gapyear.com.

The academy is aimed at young journalists looking to boost their portfolio and backpackers recently returned from their travels wanting to share their experiences and stories. Members of the academy not only get to improve their writing skills with the help of NCTJ-accredited journalists, but they also get to see their writings published online, improve their CV and pitch for press trips.

Macca Sherifi, gapyear.com’s travel editor, said:

“One of the most common questions I get is ‘how do I become a travel writer?’ Now people have the tools at their disposal to get their work published online. We’ll give pointers on how to improve style and structure and make sure that people understand what it takes to be a travel writer.

“Everyone’s got a story to tell. We want to publish those stories and tell the world what you’ve been up to.”

The GWA comes with a number of writing guidelines and advisory materials written by professional journalists for members to follow and use.
