Staying in never looked or tasted so good. Not that you need a reason to stay in – but new Dine In range is the perfect way to tuck into a Heston Blumenthal meal at home.
Launching exclusively at Waitrose – and by the look of the empty shelves on Friday night is already a hit – a selection of ready prepared meals by top chef Heston Blumenthal have been inspired by the recipes from his Cook at Home Book and he has given his special touch to well-known classics.
The range features five main courses; fish pie, lasagne, chilli con carne, shepherd’s pie and macaroni cheese (all priced at £4.89) and two side dishes; ultimate mash potato (price £2.99) and carrots with caraway butter (£2.69).
Manisha Kotecha, from the Brand Innovation team at Waitrose comments, “Just like Heston’s sell out Christmas puddings and mince pies, these meals are truly mouth-watering classics, familiar by name but like nothing you’ve tasted before.”
Heston uses some signature ingredients and cooking methods to naturally enhance the flavours of his dishes. Star anise is added to the chilli and lasagne recipes to accentuate the meaty flavours whilst umami-rich ingredients bring out the natural savoury notes in the meats. The varieties of meat cuts used in each dish are designed to add texture and the slow cooking adds a real depth of flavour. Truffle flavour olive oil adds depth and a touch of luxury to a mid-week favourite, macaroni cheese. The sauce in the fish pie is chef standard. It’s a classic velouté sauce made with vermouth, stock and cream, which is much lighter than a traditional fish pie sauce.
