Prepare to be transported to the luxurious lap of the French Riviera where the decadent world of sophisticated conman Lawrence Jameson is set to come crashing down with the arrival of larger-than-life Freddy Benson – a conman of an entirely different order.
Soon realising the town ain’t big enough for the both of them, the two find themselves going head to head in the con of their lives, pulling out all of the stops in a bid for the affections of millionaire soap heiress Christine Colgate. Little do they know what they’ve let themselves in for.
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels will run at the Manchester Opera House from 12 February – 22 February, Aylesbury Waterside Theatre from 26 February – 1 March before arriving at the Savoy Theatre on 10 March 2014.
Starring three-time Olivier and Tony Award winner Robert Lindsay, famed for the BBC hit TV comedy My Family, making his much-anticipated return to the stage after his acclaimed performances in Me And My Girl, Becket and Oliver! Playing opposite him in the new musical production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is comedy legend Rufus Hound, star of the National Theatre’s One Man, Two Guvnors. Joining them is Olivier Award nominee Katherine Kingsley, fresh from starring in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Singin’ in the Rain and stage and screen icon Samantha Bond renowned for her role as Miss Moneypenny in James Bond, and as Lady Rosamund Painswick in Downton Abbey.
Based on the classic comedy film starring Sir Michael Caine and Steve Martin, be transported to the French Riviera and its decadent underworld, as two seasoned swindlers attempt to hoodwink a millionaire heiress. As the pair compete in the true art of the con, they discover there is only room for one of them.
Multi award-winning director and choreographer Jerry Mitchell direct from his success on Broadway and in the West End with Kinky Boots (Winner of the coveted 2013 Best Musical, Tony Awards), Hairspray (Winner 8 Tony Awards) and Legally Blonde (Winner Best Musical, Olivier Awards) leads one the finest creative teams assembled.
With a book by Golden Globe and Emmy Award winner Jeffrey Lane, the writer behind the Broadway production of Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown and TV’s Mad About You, and music and lyrics by David Yazbek, winner of the Drama Desk Award for the Broadway and West End hit musical The Full Monty.
