New Restaurant: Corbin & King’s COLBERT on Sloane Square

Cafe ColbertCOLBERT has the look and feel of a Parisian-inspired pavement café that might have inhabited this particular corner of Sloane Square for the past nine decades, gradually expanding over the years from one room to occupy two further rooms.

A little oiseau tells us that Colbert will open on Monday 8th October for a reduced price preview period.

DECOR In fact,  the 1898 building that housed Oriel, has undergone a structural transformation to increase basement height for the kitchen without changing the façades, and to avoid disturbance to the occupied four storeys above in this posh London conservation area. Bespoke cornices, unique plaster friezes, different custom and herringbone floors, Art Nouveau decorative arches, Victorian tiling, custom designed hand-crafted moulded glass chandeliers and wall lights, and a huge, eclectic collection of art, original French posters, vintage photographs and eccentric memorabilia collected over the years has resulted in each of the three rooms very much retaining its own character. The Colbert café chair is an out-of-production Thonet original, reproduced especially for Colbert.

According to Caterer and Hotel Keeper  ‘… in 2014, Corbin and King will take their first steps into hotel keeping with the opening of a luxury property overlooking Brown Hart Gardens in Mayfair. Originally built as a garage in 1926, the Beaumont Hotel will have 73 bedrooms, a restaurant, lobby bar and small spa. Artist Antony Gormley is to create a piece of public art in the form of a sculpture to be used as a guest room.’
