Recently refurbished BEST WESTERN Queens Hotel, an iconic building in beautiful Oban, reopened 6th February 2014 and is where Chef Gary Goldie will be opening his first restaurant, simply titled garygoldie@thequeens.
Gary, who lives in Taynuilt, has already established a reputation for creating innovative, world-class food. Last year, after 15 successful years as chef at luxury hotel Ardanaiseig, Gary left to become inspired, improved his skills and research ideas for a new restaurant.
During that time, Gary spent 4 months at In de Wulf, becoming a chef/forager under Kobe Desramaults, the youngest Belgian Chef to be awarded a Michelin star. Gary had also previously worked a stage (the chef’s equivalent of work experience) at Noma. Both of these restaurants share a similar vision to Gary, who will be focussing on wild, foraged ingredients in his dishes.
Foraging is something that Gary is passionate, and very knowledgeable about – one of his favourite books is The Forager Handbook by Miles Irving. He has also been inspired by his good friend, mushroom expert Dick Peebles. These wild ingredients, taken from the local area, will be the stars of the show when it comes to the Gary Goldie dining experience.
