United Arab Emirates: A new art gallery will open in January 2013 in Dubai; bringing art from Uzbekistan and Central Asia to the UAE.
Alif Art Gallery is the first gallery in the Gulf to focus primarily on Central Asia’s contemporary visual arts and will show commercial and non-commercial exhibitions. The gallery represents emerging and established artists from Uzbekistan and Central Asia.
Co-founded by Natalya Andakulova and Gayane Umerova, Alif Art Gallery is located at Damac Park Tower, as part of Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). The inaugural exhibition to open the gallery at its launch in January 2013 will be a solo show for the artist Timur D’Vatz. Widely regarded as one of Uzbekistan’s most successful figurative painters, and with a string of shows at Cadogan Contemporary Gallery in London, this will be Timur’s solo debut in the Middle East. “Timur D’Vatz draws his inspiration from ancient histories, early Byzantine art, medieval tapestries and mythology. He often uses the subject of the hunt as a symbolic and dynamic motif,” said Natalya Andakulova, founder of the gallery.
Often using golds and drawing inspiration from myths, enchantment and heraldry with motifs of dogs, horses, pomegranates and falconers.
